Arlington Jewish Circle Tu B'Shvat

Tu B'Shvat, the Jewish new year for trees, is a holiday that celebrates our relationship with nature.

Come join us for a child-friendly abbreviated Tu B'Shvat seder with fruits symbolizing the four seasons. Including a seed planting activity, a rain dance, songs, and recycling bingo! Bring your own recycled containers to plant in if you can. Volunteers to help organize are welcome. Please also RSVP ASAP so we know
how many and what ages to plan for.

Five dollar per family donation requested to cover costs of room rental, food, and supplies.

Featuring latkes, menorah, dreidl, toddler activities, prayers, and songs. We could still use assistance planning activities for older age groups (3-6, 7-10, and 10+). Please RSVP to Karen Schwartz with names and ages of attendees.

The Arlington Jewish Circle invites all who are interested to a Rosh
Hashanah/Yom Kippur celebration oriented toward young children.

When: Sunday, October 2, 2005, 10am - 12pm

Where: Fox Library, Community Room (downstairs), 175 Mass Ave (corner of Cleveland St), East Arlington

Description: Our Second Annual Young Family High Holidays program targeted to young children and their families, including: a "mini-service" including kid-oriented explanations, stories & songs; kiddush with snack (challah, apples & honey); optional arts & crafts activities (for those old enough), consisting of coloring some High Holiday-themed coloring pages, and a more advanced project, probably decorating honey jars; and finally unstructured play/socializing time. The target age is roughly 0-7 although older kids are of course welcome.

A contribution of $5/family is requested to help defray the costs of the room rental and of food, art supplies, etc.

Purim success!

Many thanks to Joy, Rachel and all who contributed to our wonderful Purim Carnival!

I think we had the biggest turnout yet, yesterday, maybe even bigger than Rosh Hashanah! And it was loads of fun. We had a reading of the story of Esther where we all got to boo Haman probably more than 50 times! There was a Hamantaschen toss with homemade bean bag Hamantaschens! A Capture the Haman ring toss, mini golf (really mini), face painting, coloring, crafts and more. Kids came in costume which was an adorable sight.

Description: Celebrate Purim with the Arlington Jewish Circle! We've planned a fun and festive Purim Carnival for Friday, March 25, 2005 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm in the Fox Library Community Room (downstairs).

Reminder: There is no public school in Arlington that day!!

Make noisemakers, decorate crowns, dress-up in Royal garb, pin the hat on Haman, and have your face painted... to name a few of the booths being run by AJC families. Come in costume and join the parade. $5.00 per family suggested donation at the door. For more information: email

Not sure what the Arlington Jewish Circle is? We are an informal group, founded in the summer of 2004, mostly parents of young children, and interested in Jewish family activities right here in Arlington, Massachusetts. We are not affiliated with any denomination or synagogue; some Arlington Jewish folks are members of area synagogues and some are members of none. Our events are usually held in the Fox Library community room in East Arlington or in members' homes.

Our events so far have included a Rosh Hashanah celebration for kids, a Yom Kippur break-fast, a Sukkot celebration, a Chanukah party, and a Tu B'Shvat event.
